today was tex's day, a day of elevated drugs and elevated emotions. we spent as much outside time as he could stand. it was a day of music, food, plenty of grooming, and tons of love shared. we had a great day. 11 years ago, i stole tex out of his pen (a hunting dog) and promised to give him a life of freedom and love. this wasn't a hard task, tex was very well mannered and easy to love. we traveled a lot, hiked many trails and became very close. tex was also independent, high energy, stubborn and stoic. i knew him, we resembled each other. over the past few years, his freedoms have slowly been taken away from him but he is one tough dog and a fighter. today on a beautiful day in boone, at 16.5 years old, i helped tex go back to the earth... to run in perpetual slumber. here is to love, as hard as it is sometimes, and here is to tex. texas, i'll miss you dude.

We owe a lot to our furry, and sometimes not-so-furry, friends. Unconditional, unwavering love ~ always cherished ....unforgettable

What a story. Saying goodbye to a furry friend is so hard. Kudos to you for having the courage to help Tex pass in a loving way. Thinking about you.
